The 500 Rum card game uses a standard 52-card deck plus one joker. Each player receives 13 cards in a 2-player game or 7 cards in a 3-4 player match.

The objective of 500 Rum is to score more points by creating sets and sequences (runs) and laying them down. Play continues through rounds until one player reaches 500 points.

A player's turn begins by drawing a card from either the stockpile or the discard pile.

If picking from the discard pile, that same card cannot be discarded immediately. Players have the option to draw multiple cards from the discard pile.

Players form sets and sequences, known as melds, and score points based on the card values of their melds when laid on the table.

Sets are groups of cards with the same rank.

Sequences are consecutive cards of the same suit. The joker acts as a wild card.

Players can also add cards to existing melds on the table, earning additional points for each card laid off.

Scoring in 500 Rum is based on the cards used in melds or when laying off. Numbered cards (2-10) score face value. Royal cards (J, Q, K) are worth 10 points each. An 'A' scores 15 points, while a joker takes the value of the card it replaces in the meld.

A round concludes when a player uses all their cards. Each player's total score equals the sum of their melds and laid-off cards minus the value of any remaining unmelded cards. The player with the highest score wins the round.

500 Rum features cumulative scoring over multiple rounds. Scores from previous rounds carry forward to the next.

The first player to reach or exceed 500 points wins the game. If players tie, an additional round determines the ultimate winner.
