Steam Player Count Soars After Patch 8 Release

Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has concluded its epic journey with the release of Patch 8, the game's final major update. Launched on April 15, 2025, by Larian Studios, this patch has sparked a significant increase in player engagement. Previously hovering around 60,000 concurrent players, BG3's player count has now soared to over 169,000, propelling it just outside Steam's top 10 most played games.

Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, took to social media on April 22 to comment on the player surge post-Patch 8. He highlighted the game's robust mod support, which frees up the studio to explore their "next big thing." It's been confirmed that Larian Studios will venture beyond the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe, leaving the Baldur’s Gate series in the hands of D&D's owner, Wizards of the Coast, and Hasbro. The latter are now negotiating with other studios to potentially develop Baldur’s Gate 4.

12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!

Patch 8, announced back in November 2024, brings a host of new features to BG3. Players can now enjoy 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, and cross-play functionality, among other enhancements. Larian Studios detailed these updates on the BG3 website, alongside an extensive list of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments. This final patch not only polishes the game but also reflects Larian's commitment to delivering a comprehensive experience.

Despite this being the last major update, Larian Studios pledges ongoing support for the modding community, ensuring the game's longevity and continued enjoyment by its fans.
