If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, the presence of fishing should put those doubts to rest. Every true MMORPG has fishing, right? Jokes aside, if you're eager to dive into the fishing mechanics of *Rune Slayer*, you're in the right place. We struggled a bit at first, but we've mastered it and are here to share how you can catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler alert: It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you embark on your fishing adventure, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**, the white-haired NPC located at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon requires you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the quotation marks shortly).
Here's the catch: **to fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman sells these items.

So, **purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we opted for 10 to be on the safe side. **You cannot equip the bait**, so don't worry about that. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory, and they'll be used automatically when you catch a fish. **Each fish caught will consume one Worm from your inventory**.
Here's the crucial part: **you won't be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items in your inventory**. We tried with just one Worm initially and caught nothing. It was only after having 5 Worms that we started to see results. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep track of your supply. Once you have these essentials, you're ready to move on to the next step.

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it in the traditional sense, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready to fish.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier near Simon the Fisherman is a good spot).
Next, **keep an eye on the bobber**. When you see it **create one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
However, **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won't catch anything, and other times, you might reel in junk. The good news? **Simon counts junk as a catch** (hence the "fish" in quotation marks).
So, to complete the quest, cast your line, wait for the ripples, click M1, and aim to reel in anything five times. We ended up catching two fish and three Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll give you a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up inventory space for more important items.
And that's all there is to it. Enjoy your fishing adventures in *Rune Slayer*. For more tips and tricks, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
