Following PlayStation's 30th-anniversary video, speculation surrounding a potential Bloodborne remake or sequel has surged. This article explores the latest buzz and other recent PlayStation news.
Set to a unique arrangement of The Cranberries' "Dreams," the trailer highlighted PlayStation's most iconic games, including Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Helldivers 2. Each game featured a thematic caption; for instance, Final Fantasy VII's caption was "It's about fantasy," and Resident Evil's was "It's about fear." However, Bloodborne's placement at the trailer's conclusion, paired with the "persistence" caption, ignited fervent speculation among fans.
Despite the lack of concrete information, fans continue to speculate about a Bloodborne 2 or a remastered version with enhanced graphics and a 60fps frame rate. This isn't the first instance of such speculation; an earlier Instagram post by PlayStation Italia featuring iconic Bloodborne locations generated a similar fan response.
However, the trailer's ending could simply acknowledge Bloodborne's renowned difficulty, emphasizing the persistence required from players, rather than hinting at upcoming updates.
Sony released a PS5 update celebrating the 30th anniversary, including a limited-time PS1 boot-up sequence and customizable themes based on past PlayStation consoles. These themes span from PS1 to PS4, offering a nostalgic trip through PlayStation history.
This update lets PS5 users personalize their home screen's design and sound effects, emulating previous consoles. After installing the update, users can access the "PlayStation 30th Anniversary" option in Settings, then select "Appearance and Sound" to customize their PS5 home screen.
The update has been well-received, particularly the return of the PS4 UI. However, its limited-time availability has disappointed some, prompting speculation that it could be a test for future, more comprehensive UI customization options on the PS5.
Speculation extends beyond the PS5 update. Digital Foundry recently corroborated Bloomberg's report on Sony's development of a handheld console for PS5 games. While still in its early stages, Sony aims to enter the portable gaming market currently dominated by Nintendo Switch.
According to Digital Foundry's John Linneman, the development had been rumored for months. The panel discussed the strategic sense of both Microsoft and Sony entering the handheld market, given the popularity of mobile gaming, allowing their devices to complement smartphones.
While Microsoft has openly acknowledged its interest in a handheld device, Sony remains tight-lipped. Despite the corroboration, the release of both Sony's and Microsoft's handheld consoles may be years away, requiring the development of affordable yet graphically superior devices to compete with Nintendo. Meanwhile, Nintendo, having announced more information about the Nintendo Switch's successor for release within this fiscal year, appears to be ahead in the race.
