For years, Bloodborne fans have passionately desired a remastered edition of FromSoftware's acclaimed title. Recent Instagram activity has only fueled this anticipation, sparking intense speculation about a potential release.
Bloodborne, the critically lauded RPG released in 2015, remains a cherished favorite among players. Many yearn to revisit the gothic city of Yharnam on modern gaming platforms. While no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring the game have reignited the flames of hope.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image featured Djura, a memorable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others depicted the player hunter exploring Yharnam's heart and the eerie Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts might simply be a nostalgic throwback, dedicated Bloodborne fans across platforms like Twitter (now X) have meticulously analyzed each pixel, searching for any hint confirming the long-awaited remaster. Many feel teased by the posts, particularly given a similar post by PlayStation Italia on August 17th.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne locations. The comments section is filled with fervent pleas for a Yharnam return, ranging from nostalgic reminiscing to humorous requests for a PC or modern console release.
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a devoted fanbase, earning widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of gaming's greatest achievements. Despite this, a sequel or even a remaster remains elusive.
Fans point to the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a precedent, yet their excitement is tempered by concerns about the potential wait. The lengthy development time for the Demon's Souls remake has fueled fears that Bloodborne might face a similar extended delay. As the game's tenth anniversary approaches, the anticipation for a remastered version is at an all-time high.
In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki further ignited the speculation. While avoiding concrete confirmation, he acknowledged the advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware. He highlighted the enhanced accessibility and appreciation modern hardware would provide a wider player base.
Miyazaki's comments, while promising, underscore the fact that the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring (which FromSoftware fully publishes), Bloodborne's publishing rights are held by Sony. In subsequent interviews, Miyazaki reiterated his inability to comment directly on Bloodborne's future due to the IP ownership situation.
Bloodborne's passionate community continues to hope for a remake. Despite its critical success and strong sales, its availability remains limited to the PS4. Whether the current speculation will translate into reality only time will tell.
