Captain America: Brave New World Projected to Beat Estimates With $100 Million Domestic Box Office Over Presidents Day Weekend

"Captain America: Brave New World" has soared above expectations, pulling in an impressive $100 million at the domestic box office during the Presidents Day holiday weekend. According to box office revenue tracker Comscore, the latest Marvel Studios film raked in an estimated $88.5 million across 4,105 theaters over the traditional three-day weekend, with projections reaching $100 million for the four-day holiday. Internationally, the movie added another $92.4 million, bringing its global weekend total to a robust $192.4 million.

The film, which had a production budget of $180 million, needs to hit around $425 million globally to break even, according to Deadline. "Captain America: Brave New World" has claimed the fourth-best Presidents Day launch on record, trailing behind other superhero blockbusters like "Black Panther" ($242 million), "Deadpool" ($152 million), and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" ($120 million).

Despite its strong opening, "Captain America: Brave New World" has received mixed reviews, with IGN giving it a 5/10 score. Our review noted, "Captain America: Brave New World feels neither brave, nor all that new, falling short of strong performances from Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly."

All eyes are now on "Captain America: Brave New World" to see if it can maintain its momentum and help reverse a recent negative trend for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, with the exception of last year's successful "Deadpool & Wolverine." The film's performance will be crucial as Marvel looks to build excitement leading into "Thunderbolts*" in May and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" in July.
