"Dragon Quest 12 Details to Be Unveiled Gradually, Says Creator Yuji Horii"

by Finn May 05,2025

Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development, with series creator Yuji Horii sharing that updates on the game will be released gradually. During a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii emphasized that the team at Square Enix is diligently working on the project. This marks the first update since May 2024, when Horii acknowledged the passing of key contributors to the franchise, including character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. Additionally, the series' lead producer, Yu Miyake, had transitioned to lead Square Enix's mobile game division by that time.

Amidst concerns from fans about potential cancellation due to restructuring at Square Enix and a dearth of updates, Horii's recent remarks reassuringly confirm that Dragon Quest 12 is still in progress. The only visual representation we have of the game so far is its logo, unveiled in 2021 as part of the series' 35th anniversary celebration. Dragon Quest 12 is poised to be the first mainline entry since Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age, released in 2017.

In related news, Square Enix reported that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has surpassed sales expectations, achieving over 2 million copies sold. This success underscores the enduring popularity of the Dragon Quest series and the anticipation surrounding Dragon Quest 12.
