Dune: Awakening Delayed Three Weeks for Beta-Driven Improvements

by Stella May 15,2025

The highly anticipated open world survival MMO, *Dune: Awakening*, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's cinematic adaptations, has been rescheduled for release on June 10, 2025. Developer Funcom announced the delay, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing the game based on feedback from their Persistent Closed Beta.

For those eager to dive into the sands of Arrakis ahead of the official launch, Funcom has good news: purchasing the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition will grant early access starting June 5, 2025. This announcement was shared via a tweet from the official *Dune: Awakening* account:

The decision to delay the game stems from the desire to give the development team additional time to refine the experience. Funcom stated that this extra period will allow them to "cook" the game a bit longer, incorporating changes and improvements suggested during the beta phase. Additionally, the delay will facilitate a large-scale beta weekend next month, opening the game to a broader audience for further testing and feedback.

While some fans might be disappointed by the delay, Funcom is keeping the excitement alive with a combat livestream scheduled for today at 12pm ET/9am PT. The stream promises to delve deeper into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, along with details on archetypes and skills.

At IGN, we're as thrilled about *Dune: Awakening* as its fans. Our hands-on preview highlighted the game's potential, noting, "It's easy to be sceptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that *Dune: Awakening* is one to watch."
