Several Fallout developers, including New Vegas director Josh Sawyer, have expressed keen interest in contributing to a new Fallout game. However, their participation hinges on a crucial factor: creative freedom.

The Importance of Innovation

In a YouTube Q&A, Sawyer emphasized the need for a project that allows for exploration of new ideas. He stated that restrictive constraints would diminish the appeal of such an undertaking. Similarly, Fallout co-creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, while enthusiastic about a potential return, stressed the necessity of innovative elements. Cain highlighted that past involvement stemmed from the opportunity to explore fresh creative avenues; a simple reiteration of previous titles wouldn't ignite the same passion.

Obsidian's Current Focus and Future Hopes

Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart also voiced his desire to work on another Fallout title. However, as of January 2023, he confirmed that no such project was underway, citing the studio's busy schedule with Avowed, Grounded, and Outer Worlds 2. While a future Fallout collaboration remains a possibility, Urquhart acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the timing.
