In the latest installment of Nintendo's Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to be released on the upcoming Switch 2. This news is exciting for fans of the franchise, as Intergrade is the enhanced PS5 version of the 2020 PS4 release, Final Fantasy VII Remake. This game marks the first chapter in the ambitious remake trilogy, which significantly expands on the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade brings several enhancements over the original PS4 version, including improved graphics and lighting. It also includes the Intermission DLC, which introduces the story of Yuffie, a spirited ninja who ventures into Midgar. Currently available on PS5 and PC, Intergrade is now poised to make its way to Nintendo's next handheld platform.
Hamaguchi emphasized that the Switch 2's advanced capabilities will allow the team to fully recreate the detailed world of Midgar. "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," he stated. The director also highlighted the benefits of the game's portability, noting, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This feature will not only enhance personal gaming experiences but also facilitate easier sharing and discussion of the game with others.
The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will include GameChat, a feature that allows players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time during gameplay. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm for this development, saying, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and he looks forward to fostering a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.
While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 at this time, Hamaguchi's closing remarks hint at potential future releases. "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2," he said, suggesting that subsequent entries like Rebirth and the final chapter of the trilogy might also make their way to the platform.
This announcement marks a significant return for the Final Fantasy series to Nintendo consoles, echoing back to its origins before the franchise transitioned to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997. With this remake, fans will finally have the opportunity to experience Final Fantasy VII on Nintendo hardware once again.
