In the annals of mobile gaming, few releases have been as popular or as controversial as Flappy Bird. An instant sensation when it was first released in 2013, it was regarded as one of the most addictive games of all time. So, it's little surprise that its highly anticipated return to mobile via the Epic Games Storefront is generating significant buzz.
Flappy Bird for Android now offers a host of new content to distinguish it from the original release. Players can still try to beat their high scores in the classic, endless Classic Mode, or they can explore new worlds and levels in Quest Mode, with regular updates and new additions promised.
This new release is designed to steer clear of any Web3 elements that were controversial in another contentious rerelease. Instead, it will be monetized exclusively through ads and in-app purchases for helmets, which grant extra lives.
FlappingNowadays, more than a decade after its initial release, Flappy Bird can almost seem quaint compared to today's mobile hits. It's hard to imagine that this was the game that sparked rumors of murder over broken high scores.
Yet, there are many players who appreciate the nostalgic simplicity and straightforward nature of Flappy Bird. With this in mind, its return could be a significant coup for the Epic Games Store on mobile. While the appeal of free weekly games might not sway new players, Flappy Bird could be the title that truly puts Epic on the map for mobile audiences.
While Flappy Bird is certainly a noteworthy release, there's a wealth of other games that deserve attention. Be sure to check out our regular feature, Off the AppStore, to discover top releases not available on regular storefronts.
