Game Science's explanation for Black Myth: Wukong's absence on Xbox Series S centers on the console's limited 10GB RAM (8GB usable after system allocation), making optimization incredibly challenging. This claim, however, has been met with considerable player skepticism.
Many gamers suspect an exclusive deal with Sony is the true reason behind the Series S omission, while others accuse the developers of insufficient effort, citing successful Series S ports of graphically demanding titles. The timing of the announcement also raises questions. The Series S specifications were known in 2020, the same year Black Myth: Wukong was announced, yet the optimization issues are only now being raised, years into development.
Player comments highlight this discrepancy: Several point to the announcement of the Xbox release date at TGA 2023 as evidence that Game Science was aware of the Series S limitations long before. Others directly accuse the development team of laziness, comparing the game unfavorably to other high-fidelity titles successfully ported to the Series S, such as Indiana Jones, Starfield, and Hellblade 2.
The lack of a definitive answer regarding a Series X|S release further fuels the ongoing debate. The situation leaves many questioning the validity of Game Science's explanation.
