The developers of Civilization 7 have sparked excitement among fans by hinting at the potential return of Gandhi, the beloved Indian leader, through downloadable content (DLC). Dive deeper to understand why Firaxis Games initially excluded Gandhi from the game's launch roster and what this means for the future of Civ 7.

Hope remains high for Gandhi's inclusion in Civilization 7 as a future leader. This optimism was shared during an IGN interview with Civ 7 lead designer Ed Beach on February 13, 2025. Beach indicated that while Gandhi might not be part of the initial release, there's a strong possibility of his return via DLC.
In the IGN interview, Beach elaborated on the decision-making process behind the selection of civilizations and leaders for Civ 7. "We haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach stated. "There's a lot of discussion about the absence of Great Britain or England in our game, for instance."

The reason for not including Britain or India in the initial Civ 7 lineup, according to Beach, is strategic. "There are just too many popular choices, and we always want to introduce a few fresh and exciting options," he explained. "Some things are inevitably left out, but we're always considering the broader scope of when to bring leaders or civilizations back into the game. So, there's definitely hope for Gandhi."
Given the extensive range of DLCs released for Civilization 6, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually make his way into Civilization 7. However, the exact timeline for his return is still up in the air.
