Get ready, gamers! Gears of War: Reloaded is set to break the mold by launching on PS5 alongside Xbox on the same day. Dive into the details of this multiplatform release and discover the exciting enhancements that await fans.
Gears of War has long been celebrated as an Xbox exclusive, carving its name as one of the most iconic series on the Microsoft console. However, in a surprising Twitter (X) post on May 6, Xbox announced that Gears of War: Reloaded will be available on all platforms starting August 26—including the PS5.
This move underscores Xbox's commitment to making its exclusives accessible across different platforms. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer voiced his support for this strategy, stating, "We love our platform and our hardware but we're not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building."
This approach hints that the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day might also follow Reloaded’s lead, potentially launching on all platforms simultaneously with the PS5. While Xbox has not confirmed this, fans should stay tuned for any further announcements regarding Xbox’s other exclusives.
The announcement of Reloaded took fans by surprise, especially since the original game was already remastered in Gears of War: Ultimate Edition back in 2015. In an Xbox Wire post dated May 5, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump shed light on what players can anticipate from this new release.
Reflecting on the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, Crump remarked, "As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever."
Reloaded promises significant performance upgrades over its 2015 counterpart. While The Ultimate Edition provided 1080p at 30fps in the campaign and 60fps in multiplayer, Reloaded will ramp it up to 4k resolution at 60fps for the campaign, and a smooth 120fps for multiplayer. Expect enhanced visuals with 4k assets, remastered textures, upgraded post-processing effects, improved shadows, and reflections.
The Xbox Wire post further detailed, "Players will gain immediate access to all post-launch downloadable content at no additional cost — this includes the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression."
Good news for those who already own The Ultimate Edition: Reloaded offers a free upgrade. Eligible Xbox account holders will receive a code for the upgrade via direct message before the game’s launch.
Mark your calendars: Gears of War: Reloaded is slated to release on August 26. Priced at $39.99, it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Plus, it will be accessible on day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
