Hearthstone enthusiasts have much to look forward to with the upcoming release of the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, which is set to launch on January 21. This Mini-Set, which is part of The Great Dark Beyond expansion, marks a significant crossover event with Blizzard's iconic StarCraft franchise. Boasting an unprecedented 49 new cards, this Mini-Set is the largest in Hearthstone's history, eclipsing previous Mini-Sets by 11 cards.
The Mini-Set was first unveiled during the Warcraft Direct on November 13, 2024, generating excitement and anticipation among fans. Initially, only basic information was shared, but as we approach the release date, Hearthstone has provided a detailed breakdown of what players can expect.
The Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set includes a diverse range of cards, each tailored to enhance the gameplay experience. Every Hearthstone class will receive three new cards, while each of the three StarCraft factions—Zerg, Protoss, and Terran—will be represented by five cards. These faction cards are multi-class, meaning they can be used by specific classes aligned with each faction. Additionally, each faction gets a Legendary card, adding a layer of strategic depth. The Mini-Set is rounded out with a single neutral Legendary card, Grunty.
For the Zerg faction, associated with Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock, the focus is on swarm mechanics. Players can summon numerous Zerglings and utilize the Hydralisk to deal damage proportional to the swarm's size. The Protoss faction, linked to Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue, emphasizes mana manipulation, allowing for the deployment of powerful cards like the Carrier. Meanwhile, the Terran faction, which includes Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior, introduces new Starship Pieces and mechanics to enhance the Starship strategy from The Great Dark Beyond set.
While the larger size of the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set is exciting, it comes with a slightly higher price tag. Players can purchase a full set of all 49 cards for $20 or 2500 gold, which is $5 and 500 gold more than typical Mini-Sets. For collectors, the all-Golden version is available for $80 or 12,000 gold, compared to the usual $70 and 10,000 gold. Alternatively, fans can opt for faction-specific packs, which include the Protoss, Terran, or Zerg cards for $10 or 1200 gold.
To celebrate the Mini-Set's launch, Hearthstone is hosting two special streamed events. StarCast, scheduled for January 23 at 10 AM PST, will feature renowned StarCraft players TrumpSC and Day9 showcasing the new cards. Following that, HearthCraft on January 24 at 9 AM PST will see Hearthstone community creators representing each faction in exciting matches and mini-games. Viewers of these events on Twitch can earn rewards, including two normal and two Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs, making it an event not to be missed.
With its expansive card set and innovative faction mechanics, the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set promises to be a thrilling addition to Hearthstone, blending the best of both worlds from the Warcraft and StarCraft universes.
