Known as Suikoden in Japan, the series is renowned for its deep narratives woven with political intrigue, mystical True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny. With 11 entries, including various spin-offs, the last installment was released back in 2012. Now, instead of a direct sequel or a full revival, Konami is bringing us Suikoden STAR LEAP, a mobile game experience.

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while maintaining the series' iconic tradition of assembling 108 heroes. The game embraces pixel art to preserve the classic Suikoden aesthetic, as you can see in the teaser trailer below.

The storyline centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that have shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, the son of a village chief, celebrates his first successful hunt, but his joy is short-lived as disaster strikes—his village is attacked, setting him on a transformative journey. Accompanied by Hisui, a servant with a mysterious emotional suppression, Shirin, his childhood friend driven by a strong sense of justice, and Shapur, a former general turned butler, Hou aims to restore peace.

While the announcement of Suikoden STAR LEAP has stirred excitement, not all fans are on board. Many have been eagerly awaiting a traditional sequel, and the introduction of a gacha-based mobile game has left some feeling uncertain about the future of the series.
