This success comes despite initial launch challenges including technical issues and criticism regarding censorship. The strong sales figures clearly demonstrate significant player demand.

Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for titles like No More Heroes), Lollipop Chainsaw is a distinctive action hack-and-slash game. Players embody Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developers weren't involved in the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced version with quality-of-life improvements.

The remaster, launched in September 2024, has now sold over 200,000 copies across all platforms (current and last-gen consoles, plus PC). This milestone was announced by Dragami Games via a recent tweet.

The game's narrative centers on Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun. Players engage in intense hack-and-slash combat, utilizing Juliet's chainsaw against hordes of zombies and formidable bosses, echoing the style of Bayonetta and other celebrated third-person action games.

The original Lollipop Chainsaw (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) achieved even greater success, reportedly selling over one million units upon its 2012 release. Its popularity likely stemmed from the unique collaboration between renowned game designer Goichi Suda and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy director), who contributed to the game's compelling storyline.

While future plans for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, including potential DLC or a sequel, remain unannounced, the positive sales figures are encouraging for the remastering of less mainstream games.
