Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling new game on Android called MageTrain, which is sure to catch the eye of fans of fast-paced, pixel art roguelikes. If you've played Nimble Quest, MageTrain will feel familiar, as it draws significant inspiration from that game.
MageTrain blends the classic game of Snake with elements of auto-battlers and roguelikes. You control a line of heroes that trail behind you like a snake, each automatically attacking as you navigate the arena. Your task is to strategically position each hero, deciding who leads and who supports, as their abilities vary based on their position in the train.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine unique heroes, including one who can throw birds. Each hero comes equipped with different skills that adapt depending on whether they're at the front or part of the group. As you progress, you'll navigate through eight distinct dungeons, battle against 28 different enemy types, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to boost your chances of survival.
The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures each run is unique, with branching paths and upgrade choices that keep you on your toes. Much like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress mid-run. If you make a mistake or get overwhelmed, you'll have to start over.
The excitement of MageTrain lies in the continual improvement you experience with each run. Even if you don't win, you'll learn when to play defensively, when to attack aggressively, and how to survive just a bit longer. This dynamic gameplay keeps you engaged and eager to try again.
MageTrain is now available for free on Android. Head over to the Google Play Store to download and start your adventure today.
