Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

by Amelia May 14,2025

Nintendo has recently announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is significantly higher than expected, reflecting the enhanced features and content available on the new console.

For context, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that price, at $19.99 each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original game can access these enhancements with a $10 upgrade pack.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content under the "Star-Crossed World" banner. Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition introduces "Jamboree TV," a new suite of content that utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, the game supports upgraded resolutions up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet confirmed—potentially due to uncertainties with President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than twice the £7.99 / €9.99 cost for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.

The higher upgrade cost for both games may be influenced by the substantial $80 price tags of their respective Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. This is a $20 increase over the original Switch versions, which are priced at $59.99 each.

For those purchasing the Switch 2 Editions without upgrading, here are the U.S. prices:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers can upgrade Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Unfortunately, no such offer is currently available for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Demand has been high, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers that pre-order delivery on release day is not guaranteed due to overwhelming interest.
