Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con

by Alexis May 14,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the "C" button, putting an end to months of speculation. This confirmation came through the newly released Nintendo Today! app, where a close look at the app's promotional images clearly shows the letter "C" on the button.

The new button was first revealed earlier this year alongside the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, but initial images of the Joy-Con did not feature any letter on the button. However, as rumors suggested, it has been officially named the "C" button.

Speculation about the purpose of the C button is rampant. Some believe it could be used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV or for screen sharing. Others speculate it might toggle the Joy-Con into a different functionality mode, such as a mouse mode. There's also talk about it possibly being related to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which should provide more details on the C button and other features. In the meantime, here's what we know for certain about the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, though it's unlikely to be before June based on the schedule of hands-on events.
  • The console is larger than the original Switch, with bigger Joy-Con that appear to be usable as a mouse.
  • It features two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Switch 2 is backward compatible, able to play both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as new Switch 2 exclusives. However, some Nintendo Switch games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
