The Nintendo Switch 2 announcement trailer immediately reveals a significant size increase compared to its predecessor. As the original Joy-Cons detach, the tablet section visibly expands, hinting at a move away from compact handhelds and towards larger portable devices like the Steam Deck and iPad. While official dimensions remain undisclosed, we can offer a reasonable estimate based on the trailer and a recent leak.
At CES 2025, we handled a Switch 2 mock-up by peripheral maker Genki. Though unverified then, Nintendo's trailer confirms remarkable similarity to this mock-up, suggesting our CES measurements are highly accurate. Let's delve into the estimated size:

We estimate an **8-inch screen** (diagonal measurement, excluding bezels), aligning with earlier 2024 rumors. This translates to approximately **177mm wide and 99mm tall**. This represents a nearly 30% diagonal increase and a 66% larger area compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch display. The Switch Lite's 5.5-inch screen is 45% smaller diagonally and 111% smaller in area. The Switch OLED's 7-inch screen is 14% smaller diagonally and 30% smaller in area. The Switch 2 even surpasses the Steam Deck's 7-inch and 7.4-inch (OLED) displays, exceeding them by 8% and 11% in diagonal size and area respectively.

The larger screen necessitates a larger console. Our CES measurements of the Genki mock-up, corroborated by trailer analysis, suggest the **Switch 2 is approximately 265mm long and 115mm tall**. This is about 25% larger than the original Switch (239mm x 102mm), 61% larger than the Switch Lite (208mm x 91mm), and roughly 12% smaller than the Steam Deck (298mm x 117mm). Thickness appears similar to the original Switch.

The trailer indicates Joy-Con width remains consistent, but height increases. Our estimations suggest **approximately 32mm wide and 115mm tall** for the new Joy-Cons—a 13% increase over the originals.
Subtracting Joy-Con dimensions from the overall console size, we estimate the **Switch 2 screen unit at 200mm long and 115mm tall**, approximately **31% larger than the original**. This allows for slimmer side bezels (around 11mm) and similar top/bottom bezels (around 8mm).
While these are estimations, the Genki mock-up comparison suggests accuracy. Expect a console roughly 25% larger than the original Switch.
