The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive into the details surrounding Pokémon TCG Pocket's exclusion from the competitive scene and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join Pokémon's competitive circuit. Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company's Director of eSports, shared in a VGC interview on February 25, 2025, that while the company continuously evaluates different titles for competitive inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate agenda.
In a light-hearted moment, Brown mentioned, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he clarified, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
While The Pokémon Company has not officially stated the reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. One prevailing thought is that the game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released just two sets so far.
Despite including competitive features from its launch, the game faces ongoing balancing issues, with players urging developers to address these concerns. Pokémon TCG Pocket is a more streamlined version of the original Pokémon card game, designed to be more accessible to newcomers, which may not align with the intense competitive environment.
Nevertheless, The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, hosting events across various games like Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to be showcased at the Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
