Fans of the iconic action hero Rambo are in for a thrilling prequel, as a new project titled "John Rambo" is in the works. Directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his explosive films "Sisu" and "Big Game," this film is set to explore the earlier days of Rambo during the Vietnam War. According to Deadline, Millennium Media, the powerhouse behind the "Expendables" and "Has Fallen" series, as well as previous Rambo films in 2008 and 2019, is currently showcasing "John Rambo" at the Cannes market.

The Cannes market, a pivotal event held during the Cannes Film Festival, serves as a platform for unveiling upcoming projects seeking funding or distribution partners. While details about the plot of "John Rambo" are scarce beyond its Vietnam War setting and its role as a prequel to the 1982 classic "First Blood," the film promises to delve into the origins of the legendary character. No casting announcements have been made yet, though it's noted that Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project but not currently involved.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been crafted by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the duo behind "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is slated to commence in Thailand in October, signaling a rapid progression towards bringing this prequel to life. Helander's previous work, particularly the intense WWII action film "Sisu," showcases his ability to handle high-octane, action-packed narratives, making him an exciting choice for this new chapter in the Rambo saga.
