Rocksteady Seeks Game Director for New Batman Game

by Hazel May 12,2025

Rocksteady Studios is preparing for its next major project, as evidenced by Warner Bros. Discovery's recent job posting on February 17 for a Game Director. This role will be pivotal in shaping a "high-quality game design" that covers core gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design. The ideal candidate must have a versatile background, with experience in third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat games. This has fueled speculation that Rocksteady may be returning to its roots with another Batman game, given the alignment with the Batman: Arkham series' focus on melee combat, as opposed to their latest release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which emphasized gunplay.

Currently, Rocksteady is in the early stages of hiring, indicating that their next game is still in the conceptual phase. Industry insider Jason Schreier has mentioned that if Rocksteady decides to develop a new single-player Batman game, fans should not expect its release for several years.

Rocksteady's most recent game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was released on February 2, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. It has garnered mixed reviews, achieving a critic score of 63 out of 100 and a user score of 4.2 out of 10 on Metacritic.

There have been earlier rumors that Rocksteady might return to the Batman universe, with some whispers suggesting a game inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series.
