Sony Unveils Sleek Midnight Black PlayStation 5 Accessories

Sony has unveiled its highly anticipated Midnight Black Collection for the PlayStation 5, adding a touch of dark elegance to its gaming lineup. This stylish collection includes four new accessories: the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the PlayStation Portal handheld, the Pulse Elite wireless headset, and the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds.

The collection's pricing is as follows:

• DualSense Edge wireless controller (Midnight Black): $199.99
• PlayStation Portal (Midnight Black): $199.99
• Pulse Explore wireless earbuds (Midnight Black): $199.99
• Pulse Elite wireless headset (Midnight Black): $149.99

While the original Midnight Black DualSense controller was a popular release, the new Edge controller boasts modern upgrades and includes a black carrying case. The Pulse Elite headset, though more expensive than its predecessor ($149.99 vs. $99.99), offers enhanced features and also comes with a gray felt carrying case (shared with the earbuds).

Pre-orders for the Midnight Black Collection begin January 16th, 2025, at 10 AM ET, exclusively through direct.playstation.com. The full launch is scheduled for February 20th, 2025.

This launch coincides with the buzz surrounding CES 2025 and follows Sony's trend of releasing color variations for its accessories, expanding upon the existing Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, Galactic Purple, and Chroma options. Rumors of a significant PlayStation VR2 upgrade further fuel consumer interest in Sony's latest technological offerings.

Beyond the Midnight Black Collection, Sony continues to release themed DualSense controllers, with recent examples including the God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 controllers. Another limited-edition controller for the popular 2024 shooter, Helldivers 2, is also currently available for pre-order.
