Squad Busters 2.0 Lands on Android Before First Anniversary

Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with a monumental update, Squad Busters 2.0, set to launch on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to capture the audience that Supercell hoped for. With this update, the developers are aiming to reinvigorate the game and attract a broader player base.

This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two

Squad Busters 2.0 is essentially a reboot, living up to its name with extensive changes across the board. The gameplay mechanics are being overhauled, from battle dynamics to victory conditions, promising a fresh experience for both new and existing players.

One of the most significant shifts is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These Heroes are based on existing characters, and if your Hero falls in combat, it's game over. This adds a strategic layer to the game, as protecting your Hero becomes paramount.

Combat mechanics are also evolving. No longer will you need to halt your movement to engage in combat; now, movement and attacks are seamlessly integrated, leading to more dynamic, fast-paced, and chaotic matches. This change aims to enhance the adrenaline rush of each encounter.

The way victories are achieved is being transformed as well. Instead of eliminating all opponents, the primary objective is now to defeat the enemy Hero. While some players might see this as a shift towards a Brawl Stars-like experience, it's designed to streamline gameplay and focus strategy on key confrontations.

Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features

To make way for these new elements, several existing game modes are being removed, including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder. Additionally, certain skins and the original progression systems will be phased out. Supercell is compensating players with Hero Points and other in-game items to ease the transition.

It's evident why Supercell is pushing these changes swiftly; Squad Busters hasn't achieved the same level of popularity as their other hits like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars. With the big update and the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is making a strong push to reignite player interest. To celebrate, they're introducing daily piñata events, offering players the chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
