RGG Studio recently unveiled a cryptic teaser for their next game at Anime Expo, promising fans a "surprising" new entry. Let's delve into the details.
During the third day of Anime Expo 2024 in Los Angeles, RGG Studio hosted the "Essence of Fandom: Like a Dragon & Yakuza Experience." The event, moderated by Linda "VampyBitMe" Le, featured Like a Dragon Chief Producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto and Ichiban Kasuga's voice actor, Kazuhiro Nakaya.
Attendees were treated to a tantalizing hint about the studio's upcoming project: "We can't reveal the game type, but it will surprise you," according to a tweet by @TheYakuzaGuy, who also confirmed that the studio confirmed it as a new addition to the Like a Dragon franchise.
The shift to a full-fledged JRPG in Like a Dragon 7 was already a significant departure from the series' action roots. This new "surprising" entry leaves the possibilities wide open. Speculation ranges from a rhythm game based on the popular karaoke mini-game, a spin-off featuring other series characters, or even a remake or sequel to past spin-offs like Yakuza: Dead Souls or the Japan-exclusive Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan.
