How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To unlock Caldarus as a romance option in Fields of Mistria, you must break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Once you've completed the offering, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave the area, or risk being sealed with the Scroll. As your health depletes, Caldarus dramatically appears, transforming into his human form, granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell, and retreating to the Deep Woods.

In his human form, you can now interact with Caldarus daily, offering gifts and engaging in conversations similar to other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the seal, you'll find Caldarus at his temple in the Deep Woods, which you can permanently unlock on your map using the Dragon’s Breath spell.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with a heart level of six, which is currently the cap. Unfortunately, this means there are no additional heart events for Caldarus at the moment, but future updates promise more content. Currently, there are a couple of cutscenes featuring the dragon: an introductory dream sequence at the game's start, which sets up Mistria’s magic system and gameplay mechanics, and a scene where Caldarus rescues you from the Sealing Scroll's effects after breaking the Fire Seal, revealing his human form before retreating to recover in the Deep Woods.

Following the update, you can also trigger a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, held on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with at least four hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts at six hearts, you're already set to go with him. To attend the festival with Caldarus, gift him a Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him afterward to confirm your attendance. This will initiate a special cutscene for your date.

During your date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and discusses the stars and the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. The conversation delves into the nature of soul connections and the necessity of villains in every story. He muses about potential past-life encounters and, feeling weary, invites you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.
