For BMW models manufactured before 2008, the app's functionality is somewhat limited, and it's recommended to use a K+DCan USB cable for the connection. Using a wireless ELM adapter with these older models may result in limited functionality or might not be possible at all.

Choosing the right OBD adapter is crucial for the app's performance. Recommended adapters include the K+DCan cable, ENET adapter (specifically for F/G series), and certain Bluetooth adapters like the Vgate vLinker series, UniCarScan UCSI-2000/USCI-2100 (set to D-Can mode: MODE2), Carista, and Veepeak OBDCheck BLE. These adapters ensure a reliable connection and full access to the app's features.

With bimmer-tool, you can monitor various aspects of your BMW's performance:

• Check the DPF regeneration status and get detailed information.
• Initiate DPF regeneration to keep your engine running smoothly.
• Reset DPF adaptation values, which is necessary after replacing the filter.
• Monitor exhaust fumes pressure and injector adjustments.
• View actual and expected values for air mass, intake manifold pressure, and fuel pressure.
• Log data to a CSV file for later analysis.
• Register battery replacements without altering battery properties.
• Reset lamp circuits blocked due to short-circuit errors.
• Reset oil/brakes service and change intervals.

To start using the app, connect your chosen adapter to the OBD II socket, turn on the ignition, and pair the adapter with your phone via USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi. Once connected, select your BMW model and year within the app, choose the connection type, adapter, and communication protocol, and then tap the 'Connect' button.

It's important to note that for models before 2008 and certain older models like e46/e39/e83/e53, the app requires a K+DCan cable connection and only supports the engine ECU. If you encounter issues like 'No response' errors, especially with older models using Bluetooth or WiFi adapters, try selecting the ATWM option under advanced connection settings.

The app requires various permissions for functionality, including storage access for USB adapters, the ability to create CSV files, Bluetooth pairing for Bluetooth adapters, full network access for WiFi adapters, and approximate location access (though the app does not use this feature).
