Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

by Jonathan May 04,2025

Capcom has subtly hinted at Resident Evil 9 in a clever way, hidden in plain sight amidst their celebration of reaching a remarkable 10 million players for Resident Evil 4. On April 25, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a celebratory video on social media, featuring Ada Wong in a secretive conversation with one of gaming's most iconic villains. The scene then shifts to Leon, surrounded by an infected horde adorned with party hats, casually approaching a church.

The video takes a quirky turn with Dr. Salvador humorously strumming a chainsaw as if it were a guitar, accompanied by a rock song. As the camera pulls back, it reveals Leon, fist-pumping in excitement, with a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign behind him. You can watch the full video below:

However, eagle-eyed fans noticed something intriguing when turning the sign on its side: the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which is 9. While some might dismiss this as a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem pointed out that the lower plank on the sign appears in later parts of the video but not earlier, suggesting it was intentionally added. "I know what you did here," said one surprised viewer, adding a wide-eyed emoji to emphasize their astonishment.

Capcom has also confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi stated at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7], but I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
