"Amazon's God of War Series Greenlit for Season 2 Prematurely"

by Peyton May 03,2025

Amazon's highly anticipated God of War TV series, based on the iconic 2018 video game, is set to captivate audiences even before its premiere. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore has revealed that the series is already greenlit for two full seasons, indicating strong faith in the project's potential. Moore stepped into his role following the exit of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a recent chat with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared his enthusiasm about the project.

"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Moore, while not a dedicated gamer himself, amusingly recounted his attempts at playing modern video games. He mentioned enjoying classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede, but found the complexity of contemporary controllers daunting. "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," Moore humorously admitted.

For the God of War series, Moore has been entrusted with multiple roles, including writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His extensive experience spans notable projects such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the critically acclaimed 2000s revival of Battlestar Galactica.

Despite the departure of some key members from the original team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains an executive producer, ensuring continuity with the game's essence. The series will draw directly from the 2018 God of War, promising a faithful adaptation that fans are eager to see.

Amazon's track record with video game adaptations, such as the successful renewals of the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a promising outlook for God of War's streaming journey. With Moore at the helm and a commitment to two seasons, anticipation for this series continues to build.
