Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

by Eleanor May 23,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to its renowned stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, sparking discussions about its place among the franchise's extensive catalog. With over 30 games released under the Assassin’s Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline titles, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR entries, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to relive the life of his ancestor Altaïr. Fast forward to 2025, and we find ourselves in 16th-century Japan, controlling Naoe and Yasuke in the 14th mainline installment. To rank these games, I've created an IGN Tier List based on my personal enjoyment of each title. Check out my tier list below:

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top favorite, offering the perfect blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters, making it the quintessential AC experience for me. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly put the series on the map. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, which might surprise some, but I thoroughly enjoyed its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. Joining it is Unity, whose breathtaking recreation of French Revolution-era Paris remains stunning even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too bloated or think Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated. Why not create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community?
