Screenshot by The Escapist. If you're new to Dead Sails, don't fret. Much like its predecessor, Dead Rails, the premise is simple: you're the captain of a ship tasked with sailing a straight line for 10 thousand meters between towns, with the ultimate goal of reaching 100k meters. The key? Keep moving, maintain your fuel, and stay alive. Sounds easy, but the devil is in the details.
The in-game lobby before starting a round is a treasure trove of information, albeit at a cost. As a new player, you begin with 15 Dabloons, the game's currency. While it might be tempting to splurge on boats or immediate necessities like bandages and weapons, remember that you'll find plenty of these items during your journey.

You might get lucky on your first try and secure a class that suits your playstyle. Options include Common and Uncommon classes like Pirate and Gunslinger. Starting with a blunt weapon like a pickaxe or hammer, there's no rush to buy a firearm immediately. Instead, prioritize purchasing coal—spend all your money on it. Fuel is crucial in Dead Sails; without it, your journey ends.
While the gameplay may seem straightforward, you'll encounter various buildings and structures along your route, not to mention the undead creatures that attack. Here's how to master the game:

Explore off your ship to find collectible items marked as "fuel," which add a modest 5% increase. However, the most efficient method (apart from coal) is using the corpses of the undead you defeat. They're not only a necessity for survival but also an excellent fuel source.

The ideal strategy is to spend the night in a town where you're safe. If that's not possible, buy Barbed Wire from a shop beforehand. Mounting this on your ship keeps mobs at bay. Without it, pause your journey and defend against any approaching creatures.

A shotgun is a solid choice, offering high damage that can handle unexpected combat situations. For those new to firearms, a revolver is a good starting point, often found in buildings and manageable for beginners.

Remember, you can stack items on your boat, but they'll fall off if not welded. Use the weld button (Z on the keyboard) to secure them.
And that's your beginner's guide to Dead Sails! Follow these tips, and you'll soon be the most adept captain navigating these treacherous waters. For an extra edge, don't forget to check out our Dead Sails codes.
