Black Beacon has recently made its debut on mobile platforms, and we've had the privilege of diving into this Mythic Sci-Fi Action RPG ahead of the general release. Here's our take on what to expect from this intriguing new title.
Shh! This Is A Library!

The adventure begins in the Library of Babel, a colossal and enigmatic setting inspired by the biblical Tower of Babel and Jorge Luis Borges' short story. This library supposedly contains every conceivable combination of letters, housing every book ever written. You find yourself awakening within its walls, surrounded by a cast of colorful characters who are just as puzzled about their presence. It seems you're destined for something grand, but there's a catch: a giant spinning orb threatens to obliterate everyone within 24 hours. Welcome to your new role as a Seer!
Despite the looming threat, the setting and storyline exude a charmingly wild vibe. The narrative plunges you into a world of gibberish books, time travel, and mythological references (we won't spoil the bird mystery for you). The game's approach to storytelling is to throw you into the deep end, and if you're feeling confused, that's part of the intended experience.
Send Me In, Coach

Black Beacon delivers an action RPG dungeon crawler experience, complete with a customizable camera viewpoint. You can opt for a top-down perspective or a free camera setup, which you can adjust with your other hand. We found the latter more enjoyable, though it's largely a matter of personal preference.
As you navigate the Library's passageways, you'll progress through the story, which is divided into short, episodic sections, each containing several maps. Accessing these sections requires energy, but the game is generous with this resource, allowing ample playtime.
Your journey involves exploring areas, solving puzzles, hunting for hidden treasure chests, and battling enemies—distorted entities that the Library has 'not fully digested.' The combat is fast-paced and somewhat button-mashy, yet it remains engaging and challenging. Perfect timing is crucial; a well-timed dodge grants you invincibility frames, while a heavy attack can interrupt an enemy's move, sparing you from dodging.
A unique feature is the character-swap mechanic, which lets you switch fighters mid-battle. This adds a tag-team element to fights, allowing you to bench exhausted characters and bring in fresh ones, even during attacks. Once you master the rhythm, combat feels rewarding, though mistiming a dodge can send you flying down the hallway.
Characters And Weapon Rolls

As a gacha game, Black Beacon includes a character and weapon gacha system, where weapons are tailored to specific characters. Both can be leveled up, and while the game uses various ingredients for these upgrades, much of the process can be automated.
You might encounter characters through the gacha before meeting them in the story, adding variety and reflecting the game's convoluted flow of time.
Overall, Black Beacon offers a unique gacha experience with a focus on a more esoteric narrative. Its solid gameplay supports this intriguing storyline, and we're eager to see how it evolves post-launch.
If this sounds like your kind of game, you can explore Black Beacon now on the official website, App Store, or Google Play.
