Gearbox Software has officially announced the release date for Borderlands 4: September 23, 2025. The announcement, made by Gearbox president Randy Pitchford during the latest State of Play, was accompanied by a new trailer showcasing exciting gameplay features.
A standout feature revealed in the trailer is the addition of a grappling hook, promising new traversal possibilities. However, fans can rest assured that the signature *Borderlands* blend of over-the-top weaponry, explosive action, and chaotic mayhem remains firmly intact. To further build anticipation, Gearbox also revealed a dedicated Borderlands 4 State of Play presentation scheduled for this spring. This special showcase will delve deeper into the gameplay and, of course, unveil even more of the game's arsenal of unique and fantastical weapons.
While specific story details remain under wraps, the lead writer has hinted at a potential shift away from the previous game's reliance on "toilet humor." Whether Borderlands 4 adopts a more mature tone remains to be seen.
Further information on Borderlands 4 will be revealed during the dedicated State of Play this spring. For now, you can catch up on all the other exciting announcements from today's PlayStation State of Play [ttpp].
