The official Call of Duty Twitter account's recent tweet has ignited a firestorm of criticism from the gaming community, amassing over 2 million views and thousands of responses. Players are furious with Activision for seemingly ignoring critical game issues in favor of promoting new store bundles. Titles like Warzone and Black Ops 6 are plagued with game-breaking problems, yet Activision continues to push new content, exacerbating player frustration.
Black Ops 6, launched on October 25, 2024, initially received glowing reviews. However, the situation has deteriorated rapidly. High-profile players, including Scump, have voiced concerns, claiming the franchise "has never been in a worse spot than it is right now." The community's backlash is fueled by issues such as rampant cheating in Ranked Play, server problems, and more.
Call of Duty Tweet Sparks Outrage
Activision's recent tweet promoting a new Call of Duty x Squid Game store bundle featuring The VIPs from Squid Game, posted on January 8, quickly turned sour. Fans criticized Activision for failing to "read the room," especially as both Black Ops 6 and Warzone grapple with ongoing issues. Instead of addressing these problems, the focus on new store bundles has left many players feeling neglected.
The tweet drew sharp criticism from players and content creators alike. FaZe Swagg urged Activision to "read the room," while CharlieIntel highlighted the dire state of Ranked Play, noting that some players can only manage four games in four hours. Twitter user Taeskii vowed not to purchase any store bundles until the game's anti-cheat system is fixed.
Frustration is driving players away from the game. Since the release of Black Ops 6, Call of Duty's player count on Steam has plummeted, with over 47% of players quitting the game. Although data from other platforms like PlayStation and Xbox is unavailable, the decline on Steam suggests a significant loss of interest, likely due to the persistent issues with hackers and server stability.
