CDPR Developer Exits to Launch Independent Studio

Following the launches of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, not all CD Projekt RED veterans remained with the company. Some chose to pursue The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Recently revealed, The Blood of Dawnwalker is developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by a CD Projekt RED veteran.

Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, explaining his departure from CDPR, highlighted these key points:

The desire to pursue different creative avenues with close friends led to the formation of Rebel Wolves. Their shared passion for RPGs and their history is undeniable. However, Tomaszkiewicz felt the potential for innovation and expansion within the RPG genre was untapped. They conceived ambitious, unconventional ideas. Securing buy-in for such novel concepts and new intellectual property from a large corporation proved challenging. Therefore, establishing their own studio became the necessary path to realizing their vision. This independent approach, while risky due to the unconventional nature of their project, allows for a unique collaborative environment.

Unlike larger studios, Rebel Wolves fosters a close-knit team dynamic where communication and shared vision are paramount. This smaller team structure, Tomaszkiewicz believes, facilitates more efficient collaboration, creative brainstorming, and the pursuit of truly unique game mechanics. The overall environment fosters a stronger sense of creative energy and facilitates the creation of something truly innovative.
