Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once thrilled by the prospect of an expansive DLC set in space, specifically on the Moon, but unfortunately, this ambitious project was eventually shelved. Blogger and dataminer SirMZK has meticulously gathered leaks and files from the game's code, providing a glimpse into CD Projekt RED's grand vision for this cosmic expansion.
Within the game's files, there are references to lunar surface maps, structured zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a rover model. The Moon location was envisioned to be vast, potentially covering a quarter of the size of Night City, and designed as an open-world environment. This would have introduced a new dimension to the gameplay, transporting players far beyond the familiar neon-lit streets of Night City.
A highlight of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, players can catch a fleeting glimpse of the Crystal Palace in one of the endings, as V looks out of a spaceship window. Additionally, the files reveal a prototype for a zero-gravity bar connected to a cut quest called "201," which was linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Fans remain hopeful that some of these intriguing concepts might be revisited in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, there has been no official confirmation from the studio about the reuse of these ideas.
While the Moon DLC remains a lost dream for now, the uncovered details offer a captivating vision of what could have been—a bold leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into uncharted territory, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's distinctive cyberpunk aesthetic.
