Digimon Con Reveals New Project: Digital TCG Launch Imminent?

by Grace May 02,2025

For fans of the beloved Digimon franchise, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is poised to be a landmark event. Attendees can anticipate a plethora of exciting announcements and updates on future projects, but one teaser in particular has captured our attention: a puzzled Renamon alongside a mobile phone.

The most immediate inference from this teaser is that it could be hinting at a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). While Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android, akin to their other physical TCGs, the recent launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket sets a precedent that Digimon might be following. This could potentially position a new Digimon mobile TCG as a competitor to Pokémon's digital offering.

However, it's wise to temper our expectations a bit. The teaser might simply be indicating that mobile devices will be used to view the upcoming livestream rather than hinting at a new mobile platform for the TCG. We'll need to stay tuned for more clarity.

Going Digital

It's undeniable that Digimon, while still a cherished series, often finds itself overshadowed by the colossal presence of Pokémon. The rivalry between the two during the late '90s and 2000s was palpable, yet Pokémon has since ascended to dominate global pop culture. Digimon, on the other hand, remains a cherished choice among nostalgic anime aficionados.

Launching a digital TCG for Digimon would not be without its challenges, given Pokémon's established dominance in this space. Nonetheless, the existing popularity of the Digimon TCG suggests that going digital could significantly expand its reach and attract a broader audience. We'll have to wait for the Digimon Con livestream later this month to get the full scoop.
