Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

by Connor Mar 05,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last October. EA has yet to comment.

The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a subject of speculation since its release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's departure is unrelated to the game's performance, EA's official stance on sales figures remains pending. Their Q3 2025 financial results, scheduled for February 4th, are anticipated to shed light on this.

BioWare has confirmed that no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, with development focus shifting to Mass Effect 5. This follows a period of significant internal change at BioWare and EA. In August 2023, BioWare implemented layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees, including veteran staff. These changes coincided with a broader restructuring at EA, dividing the company into sports and non-sports divisions, and fueled rumors of a potential BioWare acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was also made, ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The unveiling of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (initially titled Dreadwolf) in 2024 was initially met with mixed reactions. Negative responses to the initial trailer prompted a swift release of gameplay footage to address fan concerns. The name change itself also drew criticism. However, subsequent impressions of the game were generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. The question now for fans is whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard.
