In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you'll primarily guide the Wanderer on his noble quest to restore peace to the land. Along this journey, the game presents you with various choices in the main storyline, each leading to different outcomes. Regardless of your decisions, you'll be joined by powerful companions who will stand by your side during battles.

These companions are not just there for show; they are formidable allies that you can occasionally take control of. In fact, playing as these companions can often be more impactful than playing as the upgraded Wanderer. Here's how you can switch characters to leverage their strengths.

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching to your companion is possible only during battles where you have one accompanying you. Before the battle, during the war council, you'll see an option to select your companion. You can choose to go solo, but remember, you won't be able to switch to a companion if you do. Once the battle starts, keep an eye on the bottom right corner of your screen, where you'll see your companion's health bar positioned just above yours.

Below their health bar, you'll notice a blue bar similar to your Musou bar. This bar fills up as you engage in combat through actions like:

  • Parrying enemy attacks
  • Executing perfect dodges
  • Attacking officers
  • Utilizing weapon arts

Virtually any combat action contributes to filling this bar, albeit at a slower pace.

When the companion's blue bar is fully charged, a "Change Character" button will appear next to it. To switch, press and hold this button for about a second. You can do this using the View Button on Xbox, the C key on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

It's best to switch to another character during intense battles, as your companions are exceptionally powerful. You'll have control over them for roughly a minute, indicated by the blue bar that slowly depletes. When you take over a companion, they'll come with full Bravery and an array of potent combat arts at your disposal.

Switching characters triggers a dramatic entrance, so aim at an enemy to maximize the impact of this initial attack. Your new character will also have their own fully charged Musou and health bars, enabling you to unleash their devastating special attacks on your foes.
