Unlocking Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

Initially, you can adopt one pet. The 1.6 update introduced the ability to have multiple pets. To unlock this feature, maximize your existing pet's friendship level. Daily care is key: fill their water bowl (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them to trigger a heart bubble. Monitor their friendship using the "Animals" tab in the pause menu. Once maxed, Marnie will contact you about adopting additional pets (or at the start of Year 2 if you initially skipped pet adoption).

Adopting Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

After receiving Marnie's message, visit her shop (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Select the "Adopt Pets" option. Choose from 12 pet licenses: 5 cat variations, 5 dog variations, and 2 turtle types. Each license has a cost:

Essential: Purchase Pet Bowls from Robin's shop. These cost 5,000g and 25 Hardwood each. They provide water and serve as the pet's "home," preventing friendship decay and runaway pets.
