Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's director offers insights into the PC version, addressing modding and the possibility of DLC. Discover what's in store for PC players.
In a December 13th interview on the Epic Games blog, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that while the team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints prioritized completing the final game in the trilogy. While no DLC is planned currently, Hamaguchi stated that strong player demand could influence future decisions. The team is listening!
While acknowledging the lack of official mod support, Hamaguchi addressed the modding community directly, expressing appreciation for their creativity while requesting that mods remain respectful and avoid offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential of the modding community to enhance the game with new features, improved textures, and more is acknowledged, mirroring the impact mods have had on the gaming landscape, even creating entirely new games from their roots. However, the director's request for responsible modding reflects the need to maintain a positive and inclusive gaming experience.
The PC release boasts graphical improvements, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous concerns about the "uncanny valley" effect in character faces. Higher-end PCs will benefit from superior 3D models and textures beyond the capabilities of the PS5 version.
Hamaguchi also highlighted the complexities of adapting the mini-games for PC, citing the need for unique key configuration settings as a significant challenge in the porting process.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second installment of the Remake trilogy, initially launched on PS5 on February 9th, 2024, to widespread critical acclaim. The PC version arrives on January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. For more in-depth information, explore our dedicated FF7 Rebirth article!
