Ghoul Update for Fallout 76 Revealed

by Lily May 14,2025

Fallout 76 Season 20: Embrace the Ghoul Life

Dive into the radiation-soaked world of Fallout 76 with Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," now available for players to explore. Bethesda's latest update, announced on their website on March 18, introduces a thrilling array of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and stunning new cosmetics to enhance your C.A.M.P. in the post-apocalyptic Appalachia.

Unleash the Ghoul Within

With the new "Leap of Faith" questline, players can embark on a transformative journey to become a Ghoul. This questline leads you into unexplored territories of the Savage Divide, where you'll encounter new characters crucial to your Ghoulification. As a Ghoul, you'll unlock exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 unique Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks," as Bethesda dubs them.

The Feral ability revolutionizes gameplay by replacing traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on its level, you'll experience varying boosts, but beware: letting it drop to 0% drastically alters your gameplay, granting a staggering +150% Melee Damage while reducing Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and both Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy significantly.

On the other hand, the Glow ability lets you harness radiation to become immune to diseases and mutations, enhancing your glow and boosting your maximum health and healing capabilities. This ability also synergizes with the new Gherks, making you a formidable presence in the wasteland.

From the pool of 28 perks and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls, players can tailor their experience. Note that Ghouls will not benefit from perks related to Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistance, as these are irrelevant to their new physiology.

A Day in the Life of a Ghoul

Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland becomes a breeze as a Ghoul, thanks to the unique abilities and Gherks at your disposal. However, not everyone welcomes Ghouls with open arms; factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may turn hostile, potentially locking you out of certain questlines.

Luckily, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises to bypass these restrictions, allowing you to interact with previously inaccessible content. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a one-way decision. Should you wish to return to being a Ghoul, you can purchase a Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.

Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned dweller of Appalachia, the Level 50 Character Boost included in Season 20 can accelerate your journey. Available for 1500 Atoms, this boost equips you with perks and enhancements to dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and key story content.

The Season 20 update also brings a host of bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage modifications. Bethesda has teased the next update, "The Big Bloom," set to launch on April 29, as part of their ongoing season calendar.

Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has transformed significantly, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam with 76% positive reviews. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, offering a rich, evolving experience for players.
