Godzilla's destructive path, famously etched across Tokyo, now shifts to the United States in IDW Publishing and Toho's new series, Godzilla vs. America. Following the Chicago installment, the series continues its monstrous rampage with Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, a four-story anthology depicting Godzilla's attack on the City of Angels, launching in April.
The creative team boasts renowned talents including Gabriel Hardman (Green Lantern: Earth One, Batman: The Brave and the Bold), J. Gonzo (Image Comics’ La Mano del Destino, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Dave Baker (Mary Tyler Moorehawk, TMNT: Black, White & Green), and Nicole Goux (Shadow of the Batgirl).
Acknowledging the sensitive timing given recent devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area, IDW has announced that all proceeds from Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 will be donated to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), supporting bookstores and comic shops impacted by the fires. The publisher released the following statement:
To our retail partners and fans,
We hope this message finds you safe and well. IDW Publishing is deeply committed to its community. We understand the importance of sensitivity and support during challenging times.
Regarding the upcoming release of Godzilla vs. Los Angeles, planned since July 2024, we recognize the unfortunate timing with the recent fires. While "Godzilla" often serves as a metaphor for tragedy, our intention is not to capitalize on current events but to explore themes reflecting the human condition.
To aid our community, all proceeds from Godzilla vs. Los Angeles will be donated to Binc, directly assisting affected bookstores and comic shops.
We appreciate your support. Through this donation, we can offer assistance to those impacted by the Los Angeles fires.
Thank you for your understanding.
Associate editor Nicolas Niño shared, "Having grown up in LA, I'm thrilled to work on a comic featuring the city's talented cartoonists. We have Godzilla battling giant lowrider mechs, stomping through theme parks, and even a subway system pamphlet! The overarching theme is Angelenos uniting against a force of nature. This year has been challenging for LA, and this comic is a way to celebrate the city and its resilience, with all proceeds benefiting the Binc Foundation's wildfire relief efforts."
Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 hits shelves April 30, 2025, with final orders due March 24.
