Gran Saga Shuts Down Next Month

by Sadie May 01,2025

NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The service will cease on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) along with new downloads have already been disabled.

Gran Saga enjoyed a successful launch in Japan back in 2021, but its global release in November 2024 lasted only six months before the decision to shut down was made. The primary reasons for the closure appear to be financial instability and the challenge of sustaining a viable service in the highly competitive global market.

The mobile gaming landscape is dominated by established titles with loyal followings, making it extremely challenging for newcomers to gain traction unless they offer something truly innovative. Despite its initial success in Japan, Gran Saga struggled to replicate that momentum globally, leading to its premature shutdown.

ytThis closure is part of a broader trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Recently, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, which was just one among several others that couldn't survive the saturated market. With so many gaming options available, players often stick to familiar titles, making it difficult for new or niche games to sustain long-term engagement.

For players who made recent purchases and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit a request. However, refunds may not be possible if you've already used the purchased items or due to other store policies.

For those who spent time exploring Ethprozen, this farewell is a bitter one, but it's a scenario increasingly common in the mobile gaming industry.
