The anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) continues to grow, with fans eagerly awaiting news about its potential release on PC. While an official announcement for a PC version has yet to be made, recent statements from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick suggest that a PC release could be on the horizon. Dive into the latest developments and future prospects of GTA 6.
Despite no official word on GTA 6 coming to PC, hints from Take-Two Interactive's leadership offer hope. In a February 10, 2025, interview with IGN, Strauss Zelnick elaborated on the company's platform strategy. He mentioned that while Civilization 7 will launch simultaneously on console and PC, Rockstar Games typically adopts a staggered release approach. "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms," Zelnick explained.
Looking at past releases, GTA 5 initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with the PC version following in November 2019. While GTA 6's PC release remains unconfirmed, Zelnick's comments indicate a strong likelihood of it eventually coming to the platform, aligning with Rockstar's tradition of bringing major titles to PC after initial console launches.
Zelnick also highlighted the increasing significance of the PC market for Take-Two's games, noting that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a multiplatform game's total sales. "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue," he stated.
Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game will not only thrive but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he remarked. Looking ahead, Zelnick anticipates a significant increase in console sales in 2025, driven by a robust release schedule from various publishers, including Take-Two.
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though a specific date has not been announced. Stay updated with the latest on GTA 6 by visiting our dedicated Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick discussed the company's interest in expanding to the Nintendo Switch 2. He emphasized their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and their willingness to support the platform when it aligns with their release strategy. "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release," Zelnick noted.
He pointed out that the Switch's audience has broadened beyond its initial younger demographic, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 confirmed for the Switch, Zelnick hinted at further potential releases, saying, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch." This suggests that fans might see more titles from Take-Two and Rockstar on the Switch 2 in the future.
