HBO Exec: The Last of Us Likely to Run for 4 Seasons

by Connor Apr 21,2025

HBO's critically acclaimed series, The Last of Us, is set to captivate audiences for four seasons, according to Francesca Orsi, an executive at HBO. While Orsi noted that "it's looking like" the series will extend to four seasons, she was quick to clarify that there's no "complete or final plan" set in stone at this time. "I wouldn't want to confirm that, but it's looking like this season and then two more seasons after this, and we're done," she told Deadline.

As anticipation builds for the show's return in April 2025, Orsi teased what fans can expect from the upcoming season. "There's certain elements in terms of the various factions that are competing for survival that reveal themselves as a really intriguing survivalist group, and I think they just have a quality to them that feels distinct in how they present it," she said. She also highlighted the unique approach to the show's visual presentation, noting, "There’s a certain way [the show] is presenting them in wardrobe and makeup that feels really different than the average person."

The Last of Us Season 2 Cast: Who's New and Coming Back to the HBO Show?

11 ImagesFor those who haven't yet experienced the gripping narrative of Season 1, there's still time to catch up before the premiere of Season 2 in April. Unlike Season 1, which encompassed the entire storyline of the first game, HBO plans to stretch The Last of Us Part 2 over multiple seasons. Season 2 will conclude with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes, paving the way for more storytelling in future seasons.

Season 2 will introduce a fresh lineup of characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. The role of Catherine O'Hara remains shrouded in mystery, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming season.

In IGN's The Last of Us: Season 1 review, the series was lauded as "a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey alike," earning a commendable score of 9/10.
