Hollow Knight: Silksong Set for Playable Demo at Australian Museum in September 2025

by Oliver May 22,2025

IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong: the highly anticipated game will be playable at an Australian museum in September 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has long topped the Steam wishlist chart and remains one of the most eagerly awaited titles globally. While the studio has only provided a vague 2025 release window, enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the game at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18.

Silksong will be featured in the Melbourne museum as part of the "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also showcase the game's design and artistic direction through various displays. This exhibition promises to offer a deep dive into the intricacies of Silksong's creation, from the animation of Hornet's movements to the strategies behind the game's challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their enthusiasm, stating: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements that will be showcased in the "Game Worlds" exhibition. This image was provided to IGN with permission.

With Silksong set to be playable at the museum from September 18, fans are speculating that the game's release might occur before this date, possibly in August. The excitement is palpable, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, confirming Team Cherry’s updated 2025 release window. The brief glimpse included new gameplay footage and was the most significant update on Silksong in years.

Initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions later confirmed for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of numerous teases over the years. Team Cherry kicked off 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
