Mobile gaming's innovative spirit is truly inspiring, and Roia perfectly exemplifies this. This unique puzzle-adventure, from the indie studio Emoak (creators of Paper Climb, Machinaero, and Lyxo), takes an unexpected approach to game design.
The core concept? Guiding a river to the sea. Starting from a mountaintop, players sculpt the landscape using their finger, carefully directing the water's flow.
Emoak's press release reveals the deeply personal connection behind Roia for designer Tobias Sturn. Inspired by childhood memories of playing in a creek with his grandfather, the game serves as a touching tribute following his passing.
Roia defies easy categorization. While challenges exist, the game's primary focus is on relaxation. Players journey through diverse, hand-crafted environments – forests, meadows, villages – guided by a helpful white bird.Visually, Roia echoes the elegant minimalism of Monument Valley. The experience is further enhanced by a captivating soundtrack composed by Johannes Johannson, who also worked on Emoak's Lyxo.
Roia is available now on the Google Play Store and App Store for $2.99.
